Sombreuil - An underrated, gorgeous, romantic white climbing rose you'll love

A few years ago in springtime, I was in Navasota for a weekend trip and decided to head to Antique Rose Emporium to get Belinda's Blush which I fell in love with its sweetest creamy pink color in real life.

Upon, walking through their gorgeous garden, this rose literally stopped me in its track.

I had to stop and admire its beauty and fragrance. I had been wanting a white climbing rose for a while and thinking of a few options, but none knocked my socks off.

This rose reminded me SO much of Bolero at different bloom stages. It starts out with that apricot color in the middle before fading to creamy white. One word - GORGEOUS!

There were 2-3 left. As soon as I backed out to decide whether I should get it or not, someone grabbed them all. My.....heart.....sank  They probably thought this crazy rose lady was in a way and spent too long, get out and let me grab them!!

After crying inside and kicking myself for taking too long, I took a chance and asked a cashier if they had a "secret" stash somewhere. She thought for a min and asked if we could come back tomorrow, I said we lived far away.

So she called someone and delighted me by saying that they would bring a truck load of Sombreuil over in 5 mins. Heck I would wait for an hour if I had to or go dig it out of their growing field by myself!

So they did have the secret stash y'all!!! If they ran out of specific one, be sure to ask. These actually looked better than the ones out there. It definitely is a very prolific bloomer. Look how many flowers!

Most photos on internet don't show true beauty of these old garden roses. I wouldn't know how beautiful Sombreuil could be if I didn't see in real life.

I came home with Belinda's Blush & Sombreuil. The end of my rose saga. As of March 2025, Sombreuil continues to thrive, glow, and bloom beautifully.
